Consumer Fraud

Consumer fraud is when someone steals your identity or any piece of information from you and tries to manipulate it. They may take out lines of credit or, if they get a hold of your credit card, they may take out all of the money in your account. Some government laws like the Fair Debt collection Practices Act or the Fair Credit Reporting Act helps to prevent identity or consumer fraud. To prevent this from happening, you should get a credit report to check if someone made any suspicious transactions with it. Also, don't give anyone your SSN. If it doesn't seem like a legit call or website, don't give them your information.
